DESPITE A SERIES of frightening gun crimes resulting in several killings, murders in Barbados dipped to 21 last year compared to 31 in 2015.
However, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of crime, Lybron Sobers, while acknowledging there was a “fear element” in the society with regard to increased and brazen shootings across the island, gave Barbadians the assurance that the Royal Barbados Police Force was on top of the situation.
“There are crimes that really scare people and the fear of crime is there, but we have it under control,” he told the DAILY NATION yesterday.
One of the murders that sent shockwaves across Barbados, with postings on several social media sites, was the gunning down of taxi-driver Ricardo “Rick Rick” Bryan. He was executed by a group of men outside Lucky Horseshoe Restaurant in Warrens, St Michael, on September 1. (TS)
