THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT and Works beat the Barbados Road Safety Association (BRSA) to the punch.

On Wednesday morning when the BRSA, led by President Sharmaine Roland-Bowen attempted to place markers to warn motorists about dangerous potholes, to their surprise, the holes had already been patched.

Their first stop was along Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church where they had planned to put down fluorescent flags. But on closer inspection, the holes were filled with a mixture of rocks and tar.

Roland-Bowen said despite the move, they would still scour the island to find spots along heavily used roads to leave their mark.

“When we got here this morning we saw the truck that was just leaving, they had filled in this particular one. This was publicised before we got here so we were beaten to it. They patched it up so that when we come we can’t work, but they are so many to choose from and that is where we are going,” she said.

Motorists have been venting their frustration about the state of Barbadian road for some time. They queried the purpose of paying road taxes amid deteriorating conditions and some have even made light of the potholes with social media pages dedicated to the road hazards. (TSG
