BARBADOS IS BEING represented where few Caribbean countries have been able to reach in show jumping.

According to president of the Barbados Equestrian Association (BEA) Monique Archer, the sport has “come a long way”, but more can be done to see it reach greater levels, and give those involved in the sport more exposure.

She said: “We have some good up-and-coming young riders who need financial support to stay in the sport they are talented in. We get many horses free off the race track, and retrain them in order to give the horses a chance to have a good life. Many of the horses on this island do not stand a chance when their racing career is over, so it’s like a second chance at life for them. At the same time, we are giving many kids the opportunity in a sport they may otherwise not have had.” (RA)
