ANOTHER CARICOM NATIONAL has been caught attempting to import cocaine into Barbados.
According to a police media release, members of the Drug Squad have charged 54-year-old Trinidadian Dexter Taylor with possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of cocaine.
Taylor arrived in Barbados on Friday and cleared Immigration at the Grantley Adams International Airport before being interviewed by police and referred to Customs.
During a search of his luggage, three packages of cocaine were reportedly discovered in false compartments in a backpack he was carrying. He was later arrested.
Taylor is expected to appear before the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Guyanese national Odetta Marsha Bentick is currently on remand at HMP Dodds and facing the same charges in a separate incident.
Bentick, 33, arrived in Barbados on Tuesday from Trinidad and Tobago. Three packages containing cocaine weighing 3.2 kilos were reportedly discovered concealed in a false bottom in the suitcase during a search by Customs Officers.
She was subsequently arrested and charged by the police.
Bentick was remanded when she appeared in Traffic Court before Magistrate Graveney Bannister on Wednesday. She is scheduled to reappear in the District ‘B’ Court on December 13. (PR/SAT)
