All’s not well at home

RICKY HACKETT was forced to vacate his home of 25 years when the well on the property collapsed after heavy rains last Tuesday.

But what has sunk the heart of the Lowlands, Christ Church retiree is that there was no steel reinforcement of the casing; a reality he discovered only after the rains. 

“This started with the bad weather. It was very sudden and as the showers progressed, it got worse. The developer said he had contracted someone to dig the well and he should have put steel in the casing, but there was none,” said a worried Hackett, who still has about three years on his mortgage.

He said that he would have to dig deep into his pocket to the tune of $10 000 to $16 000 to replace the well which had been reduced to about 14 feet from the 20 feet it was previously.  (JS)
