BOLD DISPLAYS of blue, yellow and black are adorning The City for Barbados’ golden Independence anniversary.

It only takes a glance to spot patriotic decorations on the Parliament Buildings and in Independence Square, for instance. However, a few retailers have also decked out their stores, with, for example, festive show windows, to express a sense of national pride.

Kay Richards, the brand manager of Duty Free Caribbean Holdings, a regional retail operation which includes Cave Shepherd, said the Broad Street store deliberately showcased elaborate Independence decorations. She noted that last year, the theme was merely incorporated but this year, there was a “full independence décor”.

“You would also see flags flown on the top of the building along with bunting, streamers and banners on the face of the building. You might have noticed under the canopy there are some banners with happy 50th anniversary on them. There are also flags at the entrance,” she said. (LT)
