THE ROYAL BARBADOS Police Force is urging the public to be extremely vigilant when receiving cash, especially at night and when there are high volumes of customers.

In light of recent concerns by some members of the business community in relation to receiving counterfeit cash, the RBPF also recommended that business owners and individuals invest in counterfeit detectors.

Police public relations officer acting inspector Roland Cobbler said it is also important for individuals handling money to be trained in how to detect fake notes.

He pointed out that the Central Bank of Barbados was an excellent source for this type of information.

Cobbler advised people to report all cases involving counterfeit cash to the Financial Crimes Unit at 430-7195 or the nearest police station.

He also reminded the public that knowingly distributing counterfeit currency is an offence subject to prosecution.

“Any person who have information that may lead to the prosecution of persons involved in the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit currency can telephone 430-7195, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477). You may be eligible for a reward and your information will be kept in the strictest confidence,” Cobbler said. (PR/NB)
