Go-slow concern

THERE ARE FEARS that the National Union of Public Workers’ (NUPW) go-slow could be hurting the country’s important economic pillar, tourism.

Those worries have prompted calls for the union to exercise more maturity and “consider the greater good”.

The leaders in the Barbados Chamber of Commerce Industry (BCCI), Barbados Hotel Tourism Association (BHTA) and Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) have all issued statements on the union’s work-to-rule at the country’s ports.

Faced with the possible fallout from such a frustrating circumstance for visitors on their arrival in Barbados, the BCCI said, “The negative effects [of the industrial action] are being felt by the tourists who have had to endure unnecessary delays. This is a sector which makes up the only growth sector in the country at this time.” (AD)
