BWA pumps need replacing

THE CLEAN-UP of last week’s South Coast sewage spill may be on, but more problems could be on the way.

That’s because the pump that caused the sewage overflow is just one of four problematic pumps at the South Coast Sewerage Project, says the Barbados Water Authority (BWA).

And to make matters worse, last week’s heavy rainfall is causing additional problems for the sewage treatment plant because it was not built to handle surface run-off.

This news came through the pipeline as the Water Authority issued a press release nearly a week after the foul-smelling effluent first blanketed areas along the South Coast in Christ Church. (AD)
