KIERON POLLARD has been finally given the green light but the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) has red-flagged the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for proposing a 20 per cent levy before granting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in T20 leagues.
Following a stinging rebuke by WIPA of the imposition of the levy, outgoing WICB chief executive officer Michael Muirhead confirmed yesterday that Pollard has been granted a NOC to play in South Africa’s upcoming Ram Slam T20.
In a press statement yesterday, WIPA, which is headed by former Jamaica and West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds, said it objected to the WICB’s position on the condition for the issuance of NOCs to West Indian cricketers.
“WIPA is totally against any new market restrictions or regulations that may limit our West Indian players. The present NOC levy of the WICB promotes the restraint of trade and is open to be challenged legally,” the body said. (EZS)
