Warders Upset

DISGRUNTLED PRISON OFFICERS are preparing to challenge a long-standing rule that stops them from joining a trade union.

And in a scathing address at the Barbados Prison Officers’ Association’s (BPOA) annual general meeting yesterday at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds, St Philip, president Trevor Browne said he was at the end of his tether with the treatment of the men and women who provided security at the jail.

Moreover, the officers said they have had it with the lack of permanent appointments and the minimal benefits they received for such an important service they provided the country.

But Browne’s attempts to represent his colleagues could land him in hot water after Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite asked the Press to leave the room while he responded to Browne’s fiery address. (TSG)
