AMID A REPORT that Barbados is expected to receive a shipment of fresh water from Suriname next month, the island’s two top water management officials have denied approving any such move.
According to a report in Trinidad and Tobago’s Newsday yesterday, Barbados was in line to receive a trial shipment of fresh water from Suriname.
The shipment of a maximum of two million litres of surface water was expected to leave Suriname around November 25, and arrive in Barbados four to five days later, the report said.
The move was reportedly made possible through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Government of Barbados and Amazone Resources (AR), a Dutch-Suriname company, in April 2015.
