Sixth form policy worries BSTU

THE BARBADOS SECONDARY TEACHERS’ UNION (BSTU) is querying what it terms as the “rabid” introduction of sixth forms to schools across the island.

Its concern has resurfaced against the backdrop of recent announcements that sixth forms are to be established at Deighton Griffith, Coleridge & Parry, Alleyne, Grantley Adams Memorial and Ellerslie. While not naming any schools, BSTU president Mary Redman cited concerns about access to resources in the workplace.

Speaking at the union’s activity for Teachers’ Professional Day at Solidarity House on Friday, Redman said that while the union had been calling for expansion of sixth form schools, the “expectation was that it would have been a strategic and effective programme”. (YB)
