THE PRIME MINISTER wants to see the island decked out in ultramarine and gold as Barbadians moves into the last 43 days before the big celebration to mark 50 years of Independence.

And Barbados’ biggest export in those 50 years, Rihanna, will be in to sing the National Anthem. She will be joined by a mass choir of primary school voices on November 30 at the Golden Anniversary Spectacular Mega Concert at the Garrison Savannah.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart made the announcement this morning at a media conference at Ilaro Court.

While select activities will continue in October, the number of major events will increase significantly in November.

On November 1, the annual Independence Lighting Ceremony will take place in Heroes Square, The City.

An “exciting futuristic Independence musical theatre production” called Mirror, Mirror Show Me a Hero in memory of late Governor General Dame Nita Barrow will start with a gala on November 17 and continue throughout the month.

The One People One Barbados Human Chain Link will be a recreation of the “let’s join hands” event which was done in 1979.

The rebranded Barbados Food and Rum Festival will run from November 17 to 20.

Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith has revealed every boot will be on the ground to ensure that the festivities are safe.
