THE ISLAND’S oldest distillery will be working with those in the agricultural sector to ensure it has enough molasses for its signature blends.

This was the assurance of managing director of Mount Gay Distilleries, Raphael Grisoni, who was speaking as his plant launched its commemorative 50th anniversary limited edition XO Cask Strength liquor at the St Lucy distillery yesterday.

Grisoni noted a knock on effect of the struggling sugar industry was the decrease in the availability of local molasses. In addition, he cited “logistical constraints” in importing the product.

As a result he told his audience: “It is our intention to work closer with the agriculture sector, specifically the sugar cane industry, to address the molasses issue.” (HLE)
