THE UNITED NATIONS is being asked to declare October 6 International Day of Terrorism in tribute to the people who lost their lives in the Cubana disaster off Barbados in 1976.
Two days before Barbados and Cuba mark the 40th anniversary of the bombing of the Cuban aircraft in which 73 people perished, representatives of liberation groups from Cuba, Barbados and other Caribbean countries have been vocal in the call.
Vice president of Cuba’s Institute for Friendship with the Peoples, and freed member of the once United States imprisoned Cuban Five, Fernando Gozalez; and Cuban Camilo Gonzalez whose father died in the Cubana tragedy, joined with Barbados’ David Comissiong, head of the Clement Payne Movement yesterday in the call for “justice”.
He suggested victims of families of the tragedy had not been able to find closure four decades later. (GC)
