A 19-YEAR-OLD yesterday vehemently denied that he got caught up in a wave of crime on the day Tropical Storm Matthew affected Barbados.
While crying out for a gunshot wound to the foot, Henry Depeiza Lewis, of 8th Avenue, New Orleans, St Michael, told Magistrate Christie Cuffy-Sargeant that he could not understand why the police had charged him with committing so many offences last Wednesday.
He pleaded not guilty in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court that:
• on September 28, he entered Ronald Hinds’ house and stole a cellphone;
• he entered Marcelle Alleyne’s house and stole items totalling $1 177;
• he stole a car valued $54 000 belonging to George Small and committed seven traffic offences, including driving without a licence;
• failing to adhere to a police siren; driving along two no-entry streets in The City; driving in a dangerous manner and driving without due care and attention for others using the road. (MB)
