PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL created local cricket history yesterday by winning the Barbados Cricket Association’s Shield Knockout title for the first time when they defeated Windward by four wickets in the final at Kensington Oval.
First-time finalists Windward, who won the toss and batted, were dismissed for a modest 151 in 36.3 overs and Psychiatric Hospital responded with 152 for six in 35.2 overs to take the $8 000 first prize.
Psychiatric’s run-chase was led by their top three batsmen as openers Kyle Hinds (40 off 64 balls, 6×4) and Damario Richards (36 off 69 balls, 3×4, 1×6) gave them a solid 76-run first wicket cushion in 19.3 overs.
After the right-handed Hinds was the first of leg-spinner Pierre Ashby’s four wickets, caught at slip by Allan Branch, veteran former prolific Maple opener Gregory Gaskin quickly hit five fours and a six in making 37 off 31 balls to set the tone for the Black Rock’s side. (EZS)
