Ellerslie principal takes command of Cadet Corps

PRINCIPAL OF ELLERSLIE Secondary School Lieutenant Colonel Errol Brathwaite is now in command of the Barbados Cadet Corps.

The appointment took effect on October 1.

Lieutenant Colonel James Bradshaw will hand over command to the newly- promoted Brathwaite, after serving as the Commandant of the Barbados Cadet Corps from October 2014.

Lt Colonel Brathwaite attended Parkinson Memorial School, where he joined the Barbados Cadet Corps in 1982. After graduating from secondary school, he joined the Junior Leaders Unit of the Barbados Defence Force in September 1987, where he remained for two years. He was accepted to serve as an Officer in the Barbados Defence Force Reserve, assigned to the Cadet Corps, in April 1989.

Between 2003 and 2006, Lieutenant Colonel Brathwaite was seconded to Cadet Headquarters, where he worked as a Training Officer. 

During his secondment, he organised and conducted courses for cadets and adult leaders across the region.

In August 2011, the new Commandant was awarded the prestigious Caribbean Cadet Medal for his contribution to the development of the Regional Cadet Training Manual.

Lieutenant Colonel Brathwaite holds an Associate Degree in Art Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts (with honours), a Masters Degree in History, Diploma in Education (with distinction), and a Certificate in Educational Management and Administration.

A Change of Command Parade will be held on October 8, at the Barbados Defence Force, St Ann’s Fort, Garrison, St Michael, at 4 p.m. Outgoing Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel Bradshaw, will deliver an address. (BGIS)
