THE RASTAFARIAN COUPLE  found guilty of not enrolling their children in school have retained a lawyer, and want the Supreme Court to decide if they are fit as parents, and if they can continue to educate their children at home.

Attorney Ajamu Boardi told the SUNDAY SUN yesterday he had been retained by the couple after a meeting last night, and they are going to challenge the Child Care Board for custody of their 12-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter.

The couple was convicted on September 23 for not enrolling the children in an educational institution and are to be sentenced on that matter on Friday. They are also awaiting a custody hearing in the Magistrates’ Court, at which time it will be decided if the children would be removed by the Child Care Board from their home, and become wards of the state.

The custody hearing was scheduled for last Wednesday, but was postponed due to passage of Tropical Storm Matthew which caused a national shutdown. (BA)
