DESCRIBING IT AS a “very naughty issue”, Acting Prime Minister Richard Sealy said legislation may have to be drafted to prevent businesses from ignoring the directives of state agencies.
During an almost 48-hour islandwide shutdown spanning Tuesday night into Thursday morning due to the passing of Tropical Storm Matthew, the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) urged businesses to remain closed until the all-clear was given.
However, some businesses including Carlton & A1 supermarkets, Lemongrass restaurant and a fast food company opted to open their doors despite the directive.
Sealy’s Cabinet colleague, Minister of Housing and Lands Denis Kellman, also opened his bar in Moontown, St Lucy yesterday before the all-clear was given. (RB)
