WATER OUTAGES ACROSS the island are being addressed now that the all clear has been given following Tropical Storm Matthew.
This is according to corporate communications specialist of the Barbados Water Authority Joy-Ann Haigh in a telephone interview this morning.
“All areas affected by the shutting down of the desalination plant due to the passing of the tropical storm have had their water supply restored.
“Currently we are checking on the pumping station at Haggatts, St Andrew which feeds the Bissex, St Joseph area. The problem appears to be more technical and operators are currently trying to rectify the issues.
“We are also investigating water outages in Parkinson Field and Wildey Gardens, as well as low water pressure in Collymore Rock. That is as a result of the Fort George reservoir having low levels. The issue is not job related, and in a few hours it should be replenished,” she said.
There have also been reports of outages in Brevitor Hill, St Peter in the wake of the inclement weather experienced.
“We received reports of water outages in the north of the island which we are presently investigating. Electricians are on site and working to rectify that issue as well,” she said.
Additionally, the Bowmanston, St John pumping station was shut down yesterday as a result of turbidity or discoloured water in the system.
“That station was shut down yesterday, due to excessive levels of rain and the turbidity of the water.
“Now that the weather system has passed, the Bowmanston pumping station has been turned back on, and households supplied by this pumping station have had their water restored,” Haigh said.
She also advised that the water tanker schedule will resume from today for all those areas affected by the drought. (RA)
