Call-out of workers angers union

A TRADE UNION has frowned on the actions of a supermarket chain which called out its workers in the midst of the national shutdown.

And Acting Chief Labour Officer Victor Felix said that similar complaints yesterday from workers all over meant that the situation must be re-examined.

He also advised workers with concerns to seek out the Labour Office so their matters could be investigated.

Meanwhile, deputy general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Dwaine Paul, said the union received complaints that Carlton and Emerald City supermarkets not only closed after the advised 6 p.m. on Tuesday, but also opened yesterday before the all-clear was given. (AC)
