THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION which is developing to the east of Barbados could dump up to eight inches of rain on the island.

In its 4 p.m. update the Barbados Meteorological Services said the system was about 660 nautical  miles/ 800 statute miles ( 1287 km) to the east of Barbados and moving westward to west-northwestward at about 15 to 20 mph/24 to 32 km/h.

Environmental conditions are conducive for some gradual development over the next 24 to 36 hours, and a tropical depression could form by the time the system approaches Barbados, late tomorrow Tuesday into early Wednesday morning.

Regardless of development, some moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to spread across the island late Tuesday into Wednesday. Another update will be issued at 6 a.m. tomorrow or sooner if conditions warrant.
