Strike looming at airport

THE National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) is threatening industrial action at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

With no word from Government on a salary increase for airport staff, the union is contemplating some form of protest from as early as this week, which is being marked as Tourism Week.

President Akanni McDowall told the SUNDAY SUN that he would be taking the matter before the union’s governing council.

Earlier this year, workers briefly withdrew their labour after a dispute arose between the NUPW and management at the airport on whether or not an agreement was made for salary increases. All-out strike action was averted at the time after management agreed to talks with the union. (MB)
