Prison officer granted bail

THE PRISON OFFICER who was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds last Friday is now out on bail.

Shawn McDonald Herbert, 41, of Olivies Gap, Tudor Bridge, St Michael pleaded guilty to a number of charges last week relating to the smuggling of photographs and letters in and out Dodds

The charges were that without lawful authority he gave 11 letters and 29 photographs to a prisoner; that he knowingly suffered 19 letters to be brought out of  the prison and  that he attempted to suffer three letters and one photograph to be conveyed from the same prisoner.

The offences occurred between June 17 and September 14, 2016.

Acting chief magistrate Christopher Birch granted bail at the sum of $3 000 with one surety and ordered a pre-sentencing report.

Herbert returns to the District “C” Magistrates’ Court on November 28. (TKS)
