THERE HAS BEEN a significant increase in the number of students applying for the Higher Educational Financial Grant administered by the Ministry of Education to students attending the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

Just one week after the WEEKEND NATION reported that only $300 000 of the $5 million made available to students in 2015 was utilised, that figure is now set to more than double for the 2016-2017 academic year.

WEEKEND NATION investigations revealed that over $400 000 has already been authorised to be dispersed to students, with another $200 000 being processed.

And that number could increase even more after the original September 16 deadline to make payments to the university for the upcoming academic year was extended for a further two weeks until September 30. (RB)
