Family homeless after tree mishap

A COCONUT TREE crashed through the roof of 71-year-old Elmo Carrington’s home late Monday evening, leaving her, four grandchildren and her daughter with no secure place to call home.

Elmo’s daughter Tricia explained that she sent her two sons into the yard to bathe when they alerted their grandmother that the tree was leaning dangerously. Tricia then spoke to the neighbour on whose property the tree was located.

After seeing no action being taken, Tricia said she called the Royal Barbados Police Force as well as the Barbados Light & Power Company (BL&P) but was told by BL&P officials they could do nothing because the tree was not on the power line.

“We were all outside. They [her mother and children] were on the step sitting down and I was in the road standing up but then at 6:20 [p.m.] I just see the tree come falling down,” Tricia said. (LK)
