Out front in catering to the disabled

BARBADOS HAS BEEN called a trailblazer in cornering the niche market of disability tourism.

So said chief executive officer of the Barbados Tourism Product Authority (BTPA), Dr Kerry Hall, who explained that the segment of the global market occupied by tourists with disabilities was about $1 billion.

She was speaking at a media conference at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday to launch the BTPA’s week of activities to mark Tourism Week from September 24 to October 1.

Hall said the segment of the travel market occupied by visitors with disabilities as well as the ageing traveller was growing. (HLE)
