THE MONARCHS of the court won’t be playing their road tennis strokes at the new facility at Dash Valley, St George.
The Town and Country Planning Department yesterday flexed its muscles with a fore-arm smash when it informed the Professional Road Tennis Association (PRTA) that the location where the facility has been built with bleachers surrounding the court, is a designated Zone 1 area and such construction is prohibited.
The Barbados Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union-sponsored tournament, which has attracted a whopping 70 players, comprising 53 men vying for a motor car worth $60 000 and 17 women playing for a first prize of $7 000, was due to start last Sunday.
It was put on hold pending the outcome of yesterday’s meeting of the relevant parties with Chief Town Planner Mark Cummins. (EZS)
