THIS YEAR’S performance at the Chess Olympiad has surpassed Barbados’ earlier performances.
That’s the assessment of Barbados Chess Federation president Allan Herbert, following the achievement of the men’s team to finish in the top half for the first time during the 42nd Chess Olympiad in Azerbaijan that ended last Tuesday.
“If you compare our Olympiads, which are 11-round Olympiads, it is by far our best performance. In 2014 we made nine match points, eight points in 2008 and ten points in 2010. Whereas in this one we had 11, which is basically almost a full match up because you get two points for every match you win,” he said.
Herbert told NATIONSPORT he was pleased with the men’s placement since they managed to place 90th, exceeding their 103rd ranking.
