DEAR CHRISTINE, i am 19 years old and have been seeing my boyfriend for the past two years. He is four years older than I am.
We love each other, but my mother is doing everything in her power to break us up because she does not think that my boyfriend is good enough for me. He does not have a white-collared job but that’s fine with me. He works for a decent salary and he is happy in his chosen field.
His parents are not in the middle or upper class status, but again, that’s no problem for me. They are friendly people who have accepted me and have worked hard over the years to give their five children the best life they could afford.
I hate it when people tend to think they are better off than others because of their job status or where they live. Such people are shallow and have no idea how they complicate the lives of others.
What I love about my boyfriend is that he cares for me, looks out for me and has been willing during the past two years to abstain from having sex with me, because I told him I was not ready for it. He is a good listener and is always willing and ready to listen to any challenges I may be facing at the time.
We have a very good relationship and look out for each other no matter what.
Tell me Christine, should I give up this guy just to please my parents or should we continue to work on building our relationship, which from all indications is going quite good for me? He is 23 years old.

Dear LG,
You seem to be a level-headed young lady who is not swayed by what your family thinks about your boyfriend. Judging by what you’ve written, you two seem to have a good thing doing and should continue to build your friendship from there.
It is true that sometimes people get so emotional about one’s status in society that they forget that honesty, love, morality, good manners and commitment can rate much higher than where an individual lives, the kind of family they have or the amount of money they make.
Perhaps if your parents take the time to get to know the real person, they would be pleased with your choice of a boyfriend. Keep working on the friendship.
– CHRISTINE
