DR RAYMOND FORDE has been returned as president of the Barbados Tennis Association (BTA) for another two-year term.

Forde, who has held the position for the past 17 years, was re-elected unopposed at the annual general meeting on Tuesday at the Barbados Olympic Association’s headquarters before a record number of members.

Other members of the council for the 2016-17 period are vice-presidents Sandra Osborne and Patricia Murray, secretary Sophie Worme, treasurer Helen Roper and councillors Brian Cadogan, Bernard Frost, Harry Mackenzie, Lloyd Slocombe, and Marie-Jeanne Symmonds.

Main goal

In his address, Forde said that in spite of the continuing hard economic times, the BTA’s main goal was to attract more people to the sport and that new corporate sponsors were being sought to help with the development of tennis, especially at the primary school level.

Forde went on to thank junior tournament sponsors SOL, Nassco and Fortress Fund Managers, as well as the Barbados Olympic Association, the National Sports Council and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for their continuing support of the association.

He also welcomed the many new members at the meeting and added that the association was looking for assistance on sub-committees in areas such as fund-raising, tournaments, facilities, public relations and junior development, urging members to volunteer their services. (PR)
