Masked motorcyclists a worry for police

THE ROYAL BARBADOS Police Force has expressed concern about what it says is a growing trend of people riding motorcycles while wearing “face wraps” with designs such as the image of a skull.

A release from public relations officer Acting Station Sergeant Roland Cobbler said these face wraps usually hide the identity of the wearer.

“We are therefore reminding the public that the law is very specific and does not permit people to wear masks in public places.

Section 37 (b) of the Highway Act clearly states that it shall not be lawful for any person to appear masked or otherwise disguised on any highway or in any public place except in accordance with the terms of a permit granted by the Commissioner of Police,” the release stated.

The police also warned vehicle owners that tinted windows should be in compliance with the specifications outlined in Section 27 (b) of the Road Traffic Act.

This states “the owner of a vehicle shall not permit the glass to be tinted to such a degree as to make the driver of the vehicle unidentifiable from a reasonable distance by a person outside of a vehicle”.  (PR/NB)
