‘Perfect storm’ for crime

THE RECENT SPATE of crime is just the culmination of a series of risk factors which have been building in Barbados over time.

And, said criminologist and the first head of the National Task Force on Crime Prevention, the island needed to stop looking to the police to solve its problems and, instead, institute an integrated approach to tackling the problem.

Yolande Forde told the SUNDAY SUN the violent crimes were a direct result of human behaviour which led to the conclusion that “crime is primarily a behavioural problem and not a law enforcement one”.

She said different factors in the equation of life led to criminal behaviour. (HLE)
