LAUDERHILL – Rival captains Carlos Brathwaite and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have expressed contrasting views over the state of the outfield that led to the abandonment of the second Twenty20 International between West Indies and India at the Central Broward Regional Park on Sunday.
While Brathwaite does not believe it was safe to resume after a stoppage for rain left the outfield wet, Dhoni countered by saying he had played in worse conditions during his career.
Umpires called off the match during India’s reply as a no-result after a delay caused by a 20-minute downpour and concerns about soggy areas including at the top of the bowler’s runner-up at one end.
India were 15 without loss, after bowling out West Indies for 143 in 19.4 overs, in a match which also started nearly an hour late because of issues with the satellite link for the live broadcast.
The result meant that West Indies won the series 1-0 after their thrilling one-run victory the previous day at the same venue. (CMC/HG)
