THE Bajan Gems predictably romped to their fifth successive victory with a 75-16 demolition of hosts St Maarten when the AFNA Youth World Cup Qualifier continued on Saturday night at the LB Scott Indoor Auditorium.
With one of the best crowds attending and applauding every goal from St Maarten, the home team looked ready for battle. Sadly, the spectators could only cheer 16 times as the Gems employed a running game supported by mean defence and deadly shooting to shake off a slow start.
From 13-5 they rushed to 36-8 by half-time and 57-12 at the end of the third quarter before finishing off St Maarten.
Barbados started with Vanessa Reid-Cox and captain Sheniqua Thomas shooting, Shanice Wharton and Sade Sargeant in the defence circle with Rashida Chase running centre, Shonte Seale at wing defence and Amanda Knight at wing attack. (KB)
