That was the position held by some business owners on Bay Street who gave the construction of the Hyatt Centric Resort the thumbs up.
The multimillion-dollar project has become controversial, with political activist David Comissiong and other noted figures contesting its development. Comissiong, a social activist who has threatened legal action against the developers, expressed concerns over the preservation of natural environment in Bridgetown and its UNESCO World Heritage Site inscription.
However, some business people in the area welcomed the arrival of the world-acclaimed hotel brand on the beachfront site. Owner of Lobster Alive, Arthur Taylor, said he believed it was a “great idea” because it would enhance Lower Bay Street. (LT)
