THE NUMBER OF homeless people in Barbados is continuing to rise at an alarming rate.
Bridgetown has become home to many of them who flock to the island’s capital in search of a better life with preferred cooling spots as the old National Insurance building, Bridge Street, Independence Square, Broad Street and the Cenotaph in Heroes Square.
During a trip through Bridgetown this week, the SATURDAY SUN counted over 15 homeless people between Lower Broad Street and Independence Square.
While they roam the streets during the day, at night they converge on the old National Insurance building with their few belongings, offsetting passers-by with their presence. Sometimes there are heaps of garbage close by as they laze in unhygienic conditions.
While the majority of them are men, several women were also spotted. (RB)
