Young cadets learn fire rescue

THE BARBADOS FIRE SERVICE now has a fine crop of youth to draw from in the future.

This year, 28 youngsters took part in the 16th junior fire cadet programme and, should they so choose, will be more than welcome to become fire officers when ready.

During the recent closing ceremony at the Probyn Street headquarters in The City, the youth made an impressive showing of tying various knots, attaching and using a fire hose to a hydrant, rescuing people using ladders and foot drills, plus a humorous skit.

Chief training officer, station officer Henderson Patrick, said the six-week programme was designed to help build character, courage and a possible career. (CA)
