THE BARBADOS HILTON Resort has been hailed as a beacon in the industry and a genuine inspiration to the entire sector.

This endorsement came from Parliament Secretary in the ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, as she joined the hotel’s staff and management recently in celebrating a number of international awards won over the past two years from a field of 3 000 hotels in the Americas.

Sandiford-Garner said in the presence of fellow Government Senator Darcy Boyce and Hilton general manager George Stanfield: “I recall vividly that when the Hilton reopened its refurbished hotel in 2005, it had at its entrance and in some key positions, some of the very staff who had served so well under the old Hilton.

“So that much of the regret and horror at the demolition/implosion of the old Hilton, to which persons at all levels in Barbados were emotionally attached, immediately dissipated.”

Awards on display were the Hotel Of The Year 2015, Global Team Member Opinion Survey Award – Highest Leadership Index 2015, Circle Of Excellence – 2015 Human Resources Change Champions Of The Year Award, Best Employers Award-Large Category 2016 and 2016 World Luxury Spa Awards Winner – Luxury Emerging Spa.

Sandiford-Garner said the awards “speak to hard work, service excellence, dedication to task, effective management, going above the call of duty, maintaining positive attitudes and standards and, above all, providing unforgettable experiences.

“Happily, the work of Needhams Holdings, the management company of the Hilton Hotel, has been duly rewarded. I am informed that since 2011 the Hilton Barbados Resort has recorded profits every year and that the outlook is equally promising for 2015-2016”.

Before being treated to a sumptuous meal, the guests were told by Stanfield that the success was achieved by the family set-up which has existed at the hotel since it was first built in 1966.

Stanfield also praised director of human resources Cheryl Corbin who copped the 2015 HR Change Champion Award. (KB)
