Duty-free excitement

THE IDEA OF DUTY-FREE zones has stirred some excitement within the local business community.

But while many operators said the initiative should be introduced as soon as possible, some expressed doubts about how it would work.

The Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler proposed the initiative during the 2016 Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposal. He said it would help retain more foreign exchange. 

The SUNDAY SUN spoke with several business operators in Bridgetown and Holetown, St James, which were two locations slated to be duty-free zones.

Emma Blanc, owner of Jenny Blanc, a furniture store in Holetown, said she had been interested in attaining Government concessions that would allow her to offer duty- free rates.
