AN ASSURANCE HAS come from the National Petroleum Corporation (NPC) that come Christmas time, hotels and restaurants across the island will be literally cooking with gas.

Acting general manager at the NPC, Birchmore Scantlebury, said yesterday there would be no repeat of the 2014 shortage of natural gas, a development that severely affected hotels and restaurants on both the South and West Coasts.

Speaking to the SATURDAY SUN during the NPC’s 35th anniversary appreciation day at its Wildey, St Michael headquarters, Scantlebury said that since last December they had been importing gas in an effort to meet the high demand during the Yuletide season.

“What we have done is, we have an emergency plant which we implemented last December, where we are importing natural gas in containers.”
