THE NEW COHORT OF Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) students are he fortunate ones who have received places as hundreds of others who applied were not as fortunate.
Principal Hector Belle said this year, as has happened in recent years, the number of applicants has far outstripped the number of places available, leaving many prospective students in tears.
“It was a very difficult task for us to turn away others who wanted to be here. Up to yesterday I got several telephone calls from persons who reported that their children were disappointed at not being selected,” he said.
Belle, who spoke at the orientation ceremony in the hall yesterday, told the students that they should therefore cherish this opportunity that they have at the SJPP and ensure they did not waste it. (LK)
