PATIENTS STOOD WAITING impatiently outside the Branford Taitt Polyclinic this morning while staffers attempted to locate and get rid of an offensive odour in the clinic’s main waiting room.
According to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Tennyson Springer, when staff members first arrived they smelled a foul stench permeating throughout the main waiting area.
Visitors were told to wait outside while the clinic’s maintenance staff tried to ascertain the source of the odour. Many were displeased at being relegated outside the clinic’s doors, and the lack of explanation about the situation.
Springer, who came out of the building an hour and a half after the scheduled opening time of 8 a.m., said the odour was coming from the bodies of three dead pigeons found in the roof of the waiting room.
He told the restless patients that they would be allowed in within the hour but quite a few described the situation as outrageous.
Maintenance staff then worked quickly to remove the birds’ corpses and aerate the area so the clinic could open. (CM)
