THE NEWLY RENOVATED Arch Hall, St Thomas Fire Station could be used as a state-of-the-art training facility for local and regional firefighters.

Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Brathwaite said so yesterday as he indicated he wanted Barbados to see itself as the trainer of trainers for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the week-long International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters (IABPFF) 2016 convention at Hilton Barbados Resort yesterday, he said the association with the IABPFF will be a significant opportunity for Barbados and the Caribbean region to see how they can incorporate the best practices they gained in what the region was doing to make sure everyone remains on the cutting edge.

Brathwaite also said that with the construction of high-rise buildings across Barbados it meant that local firefighters required new skills since traditionally fires have been, in the main, household, property, bush fires and cane fires.  (LK)
