Record medal haul in squash

BARBADOS won a record six gold medals at the end of the individual competition on the third day of the 34th annual Caribbean Junior Squash Championships in the Cayman Islands on Monday.

Apart from the gold medals, the young Barbadians also claimed two silver and three bronze medals from the ten individual finals which were contested.

In the inaugural Boys’ Under-11 age group final, top seed, Alex Stewart and the No.2 Aiden Parris played an exciting match that Stewart eventually won in five close games 6-11, 11-8, 12-10, 6-11, 11-5 to bring Barbados both the gold and silver medals.

On Sunday, nine-year-old Rebekah Nichols had already claimed the first bronze medal for Barbados in the inaugural Girls’ Under-11 round-robin competition, which was won by Guyanese Paige Fernandes. (EZS/PR)
