THE Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is second only to the Indian Premier League (IPL) when it comes to franchise Twenty20 cricket tournaments around the world, CPL organisers say.

While highlighting the success of the tournament which is now into its fourth year, CPL chief executive officer Damien O’Donohoe is upbeat about the 2016 edition which is at the half-way stage following the completion of the Barbados leg of matches last night.

“First and foremost, we are a cricket tournament. We are now up there with the best T20 tournaments in the world. We’re second only to IPL,” O’Donohoe told NATIONSPORT.

“When you look at the standard of players, the mix of international and local talent is just phenomenal. In terms of how the tournament has gone, we couldn’t be happier. The stadiums have been packed, the passion is there, the crowds and fans just absolutely love the CPL.” (HG)
