ST KITTS AND NEVIS PATRIOTS stormed to their first victory in the 2016 Hero Caribbean Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament earlier today at Warner Park.
The Patriots put up 203 for seven off their 20 overs, the best score so far, then restricted St Lucia Zouks to 145 for five to win by 58 runs.
Openers Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons (30) laid the foundation with 69 off the powerplay.
Lewis scored 73 off 36 balls and Devon Thomas added a quick-fire 48 off 27. Shane Watson took three wickets for 36 runs.
The Zouks seemed to be giving the score a real chase with Watson (55) and Johnson Charles (40) blazing to an opening stand of 90. But Samuel Badree, one of the best spinners in the game, sent both back to the dugout, taking two for 22 runs.
Mike Hussey’s 22 was in vain after Andre Fletcher and David Miller both fell cheaply.
The match was over long before the final ball, with the Zouks needing an impossible 67 off the last over.
