Appointed

OVER FOUR HUNDRED primary school teachers in temporary posts have been given appointments.

Minister of Education Ronald Jones said yesterday the appointments were made over a period and were in addition to the 58 that followed the 2007 Public Service Act which made teachers with three years of continuous temporary service eligible for appointment.

Speaking during debate in the House of Assembly on the Public Service (Teachers) Order 2016, which looked at the issue of posts within the teaching service, Jones said there were 777 temporary posts in the primary school system last year.

He said while this figure had been reduced, temporary posts in the secondary system were yet to be addressed and were engaging the attention of the relevant authorities. (GC)
